The Vancouver Island Biathlon Club a is based in the beautiful nordic ski area of Mt Washington Alpine Resort near Courtenay, BC.  Mt Washington has over 55 km of groomed trails that cover a variety of terrain, much of it in, or overlooking spectacular Strathcona Provincial Park.

Our club boasts one of the best, fully-automated ranges in British Columbia, with 26 shooting lanes. The club hut, located steps away from the range provides a heated place to warm up, watch the action on the range and spend time with other club members.

The Vancouver Island Biathlon Club not only promotes the exhilarating sport of biathlon, but also brings the community together through sportsmanship and healthy living. Many of the lessons learned in this sport can carry over to other aspects of life. Teamwork, discipline, hard work, perseverance, and success are all experiences that will be encountered later in sport and in life.

Programs are offered for ages 9+, with both recreational and competition streams having a low participant-to-coach ratio for optimum learning and safety. Please check out the Programs section for more details.

The Vancouver Island Biathlon Club also hosts a number of races or other events to promote or support the sport of biathlon on Vancouver Island. Please see the Races and Events sections for more details.

Tentative 2025 program schedule:

Also new for 2025 is the creation of 3 distinct levels for our Adult Recreational (i.e. Masters) Program:

  • Bronze Level (Sunday mornings) – Intended for new biathletes, or those with 1 or 2 years experience that are still developing core shooting skills (position, breathing, sight picture, trigger pressure, follow-through) and putting the rifle on/off.
  • Silver Level (either Saturday afternoons or Wednesday afternoons) – Intended for biathletes that have completed at least 1 or 2 years of the Bronze Level program (or equivalent) and are comfortable with shooting both prone and standing and putting the rifle on/off. Silver Level athletes are working on “putting it all together” at local club races or BC Cups. May also have their own rifle.
  • Gold Level (either Saturday afternoons or Wednesday afternoons) – Intended for biathletes that are looking to improve their race performance at local club races and BC Cups. Focus will be on higher level skills and race strategy. Most likely own their own rifle.
