A number of Cadet squadrons on Vancouver Island engage in biathlon activity through Vancouver Island Biathlon club membership. Coaching is supported by Squadron Leaders who are certified biathlon coaches, and offered according to squadron schedule availability. Cadets are also welcome to join in VIBC programming opportunities to further enhance their skill.
In addition to being able to participate in VIBC club races and Biathlon BC Cup races, Cadet biathletes participate in a series of competitions at the local level that culminate in provincial / territorial competitions and an annual National Cadet Biathlon Championship.
Every year, the Cadet Zones race for Vancouver Island is hosted at the Vancouver Island Biathlon Club range. Periodically, Provincials has also been hosted at the VIBC range, including most recently in 2016 and in 2018.
In order to train at the Vancouver Island Biathlon Club range, all Cadets and Squadron Leaders must be VIBC members. Membership is available at www.zone4.ca. Liability insurance is provided for Cadets only for Cadet activities. If a Cadet wishes to do any non-Cadet training or racing, or take part in VIBC programming, Cadets must also obtain a membership with Biathlon Canada, which is available at www.zone4.ca.
A day use fee of $10/cadet/day is charged to each squadron at the end of the season. Squadron leaders as responsible for completing the red attendance log book for their squadron for each day of training.
