Vancouver Island Biathlon Club

The Vancouver Island Biathlon Club is based in the beautiful nordic ski area of Mount Washington Alpine Resort near Courtenay, BC. Mount Washington has over 55 km of groomed trails that cover a variety of terrain, much of it in, or overlooking spectacular Strathcona Provincial Park. Our club boasts one of the best, fully-automated ranges in British Columbia, with 26 shooting lanes. The club hut, located in close proximity to the range provides a heated place to warm up, watch over the range and spend time with other club members.

The Vancouver Island Biathlon Club is not only about promoting and supporting the exhilarating sport of biathlon, but also about bringing the community together through sportsmanship and healthy living. Many of the lessons learned in this sport can carry over to other aspects of life. Teamwork, sacrifice, discipline, hard work, perseverance, striving and success are all experiences that will be encountered in sport and in life.

Programs are offered for ages 9+, with both recreational and competition focuses with low coach to participant ratios for optimum learning and safety. Please check out the Programs section for more details.

The Vancouver Island Biathlon Club also hosts a number of races or other events to promote or support the sport of biathlon on Vancouver Island. Please see the Races and Events sections for more details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Would you like to know more about the sport of biathlon?

Biathlon is an Olympic winter sport, which combines competitive, free-technique cross-country skiing and small-bore rifle marksmanship. Several other competition forms of movement and shooting - such as ski archery, snowshoe Biathlon, running and shooting and mountain bike Biathlon - are also normally included in the general category of Biathlon. The word competition is used in Biathlon instead of race because it is not only a race but a combination of two different competitive activities.
